MLA Introduces New Awards for Annual Conference - Applications Due June 8

Submitted by gcouraud on May 2, 2012 - 3:10pm.

MLA is thrilled to have occasion to recognize Michigan library excellence with new awards.  Like Michigan’s libraries, MLA is evolving and always striving to be the best it can be for its members.  In this vein, MLA’s Board decided to make some adjustments to its recognition awards.  MLA has adapted the awards process to better celebrate those who make libraries great. Keeping with the spirit of making life more convenient, we revitalized the awards process to make it simpler to nominate an outstanding individual.

Our new and revitalized awards are: Librarian of the Year, Up and Comer, Heart of a Champion, Outstanding Team Member and the President’s Award for Service to MLA.   Award nominations will be considered this year, and alternates will be saved for consideration in coming years.  Award nominations are due June 8, 2012.

In the spirit of being LOUD for the 2012 Annual Conference, and of celebrating excellence, we strongly encourage you all to nominate someone you know in the library field for one of these awards.

Thank you to the Awards Task Force for their contributions and creativity in redesigning MLA's awards.  Task Force members included: Margaret Auer, Chair, Julia Eisenstein, Claire McLaughlin, Lisa Mulvenna and Trish Burns.

Michigan Outcomes: Stories That Matter

Submitted by gcouraud on January 6, 2012 - 6:53pm.

Libraries struggle to effectively market to end-users and prove their relevance to funding bodies, the media and users.  It is clear that we must change and expand the conversations libraries are currently having around evaluating the efficacy of resources through a transition from measuring and analyzing outputs (sessions, circulation, etc.) to outcomes (jobs and businesses created, literacy levels, user satisfaction).  Libraries must understand who their stakeholders and customers are and how to influence them. Join us and tell your story. Read and follow the outcomes-based approach How to Tell the Story of Your Library’s Impact for
